Fire Prevention Week 2023
October 8th - October 14th 2023
This year’s FPW campaign, “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention™,” works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking.
On behalf of the Fire and Building Safety Staff, we would like to send our gratitude and appreciation, for the students and staff members that pledged to be fire safe. Our mission was met with students, staff, and visitors, placing their signature on our " I Pledge To Be Fire Safe" board, stating that they will strive for a fire safe environment. Education, conversations, and a deep sense of teamwork was established for fire prevention week on our campus. Fire prevention week tabling was setup on Scholar's Lane in front of the Kolligian Library and was a success.
This year's topic for fire prevention week, was safety in the kitchen. F.A.B.S staff members, which included Deputy Fire Marshal Rome Arrington, Deputy Fire Marshal Maria Gladden, Student Assistant's Carlos Martinez and Keona's Huang, assisted students and staff with fire prevention knowledge, games and prizes. As an entire campus, let's continue our mission to reduce loss of life and property, through identifying and reducing potential fire hazards in our living quarters, office spaces, and places of learning. Again, Fire and Building Safety will continue to strive to keep UC Merced fire safe, by the application of fire code, education, and thorough inspections. If you haven’t had a chance to pledge to be fire safe, please stop by trailer town to visit the Fire and Building Safety Team!
